With spring finally sprung, you’re likely eager to take your RV out on the first camping trip of the season! However, before you make plans to visit your favorite camping grounds, you’ll need to take some time to de-winterize your rig and get it ready for the spring season. For tips on how to prep your RV for the warm weather, be sure to read our helpful maintenance tips below.

Engine Maintenance

Before you pack your things or start up your engine for your upcoming trip, you’ll need to check that each of your RV’s fluids is still in good condition. This means taking note of any discoloration, floating debris, or signs of condensation. If you do notice any of these issues, they’re clear indicators that fluid needs to be flushed and its filter replaced before you can hit the road.

Your RV’s electrical components will also need to be inspected, and we advise starting with your rig’s battery before anything else. Make sure there aren’t any cracks or signs of corrosion, before checking your battery’s fluids and giving it a quick cleaning. If your battery is working properly, you’ll then want to check that your RV’s electrical appliances and indoor and outdoor lights are still functioning normally. While you’re double-checking your headlights or tail lights on the exterior, we also advise taking a moment to confirm that your RV’s tires still have plenty of air.

Interior Maintenance

Now that the engine is up and running, you’ll need to take a little time to care for your RV’s interior. Start by inspecting your rig’s nooks and crannies for any signs of pests, or cracks and holes that will need to be patched up. As you’re walking around your RV, you may also want to open various doors and windows to let fresh air in and remove any lingering smells. Finally, grab your hose and give the fresh water tank a thorough rinse before refilling it. Afterward, you’ll want to let the pump run for a few minutes to remove any leftover anti-freeze.
