Do you love RV camping, but wish you could bring your pet along? There are a lot of risks involved with bringing your pet along for an RV trip. However, by following these guidelines from Pink Flamingo RV, you should be able to enjoy an RV trip with your pet while keeping them safe and happy.

Preparing Your Pet for the Unknown

Dogs and cats aren’t always the best at handling unfamiliar scenarios. You may end up scaring them if you just throw them in the deep end unprepared. Spend some time in the RV with your pet so that they can start to acclimate to it. You also may need to visit a vet in order to get your dog or cat vaccinated for diseases not found in your area.

On The Road

How you handle your pet while in transit depends on what type of RV you own. Motorhomes usually have built-in air conditioning and heating systems, so your main concern will be keeping your pet secured. Towable RVs have these systems too, but they’re not usually engaged while the RV is being towed. That’s why you’ll need to put your pet in a crate in your tow vehicle. Not only will it keep your pet from overheating or freezing, but it’ll help keep them secure. Don’t forget to give your pet the occasional break while traveling.

Keep Up With Everyday Routines

Be sure to keep up with your pet’s regular routines like walking, napping, feeding, and taking medication. Don’t forget to pack some favorite toys and treats to keep your dog or cat entertained.

Leashes and Tags

Finding a lost dog or cat is difficult enough when it happens at home, but it’s even harder when your pet gets lost on the road. Whenever your pet isn’t in their crate, they need to be tied down or leashed. This will also ensure that your pet doesn’t bother other campers. We recommend that you microchip your pet and have it wear a collar with tags just in case the worst happens.
